Beav has nothing but love for Ruben
Stephen Donald says Ruben Love deserves a “flying pass” for his performances for the All Blacks against the Springboks, despite being dropped in favour of Richie Mo’unga.
Love started the All Blacks’ first six Tests under Dave Rennie, including three on the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour, but now has to make way for the returning Mo’unga in Baltimore.
Speaking on The Aftermatch with Kirst and Beav, Donald backed the 25-year-old’s body of work against the world champions. capturengo.org
“The verdict is if you go to a World Cup tomorrow then you’re more than comfortable if Ruben is wearing the No 10 jersey,” Donald said.

Asked whether Love would be his World Cup flyhalf, Donald acknowledged the picture is complicated by Mo’unga’s return, but was full of praise for how Love handled three consecutive Tests against South Africa.
“That’s the complicated thing because we’ve brought back Mo’unga,” Donald said.
“But if we are looking specifically at Ruben Love, how’s he gone? I think he’s gone great considering he won’t have a greater examination. It’s one thing to play one game against a team one weekend, to go back there three weekends in a row, that’s huge.
“When we were coming home strong in Cape Town, it was Ruben who was starting to poke his head through and was starting to find gaps.”
TUIPULOTO: This isn’t a dead rubber
Donald says Love was forced to adapt his game on this tour, and believes he’s done a good job.
“I guess going from Super Rugby, it was supposed to be this pyjama rugby that was glorified touch footy. Well, the greatest contrast to that is playing the Springboks and he’s gone from playing razzle-dazzle with the Hurricanes to now steering an All Blacks ship against the Springboks, who play a completely different game, and he stood up massively.
“Obviously, the chat’s going to come and the pressure is going to come from Richie once Richie gets his feet back.”

Cardoso Warns Sundowns of Tough Chippa Test
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso admits his side face another tough test when they take on Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium this weekend.
The Brazilians come into this fixture high in confidence after claiming a comfortable 3-0 victory over Siwelele FC.
Sundowns will now travel to East London for their upcoming Betway Premiership fixture against the Chilli Boys.
Cardoso says the situation will leave Sundowns with limited recovery time ahead of their upcoming international commitments, but insists he does not want to make excuses as they turn their attention to Saturday’s clash.
“It will be a tough match, we play there on Saturday,” Cardoso said.
“A little bit of applications, I don’t want to speak about that but a change of the venue that will allow us to stay one more day, we’ve only flight the following day on the night to attach preparation for our international match the following weekend and it’s a pity that things are that way but I don’t want to cry, they say I cry too much.
“But I just stuck too reality, but now it’s time to think about the next match and to recover the players and think about the weekend thank you.”

Lienert-Brown plots Bok defeat to a fine detail
Veteran centre Anton Lienert-Brown knows the key to victory for the All Blacks in Saturday’s Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry finale will come down to the “small margins”.
South Africa and New Zealand will clash at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium, with Dave Rennie’s men looking to level the four-Test series and cap an eight-match tour on a high.
The Boks won successive Tests in Cape Town and Joburg after the Kiwis drew first blood at Ellis Park three weeks ago, but Lienert-Brown believes the All Blacks have proved they are not far off competing with the world champions.
TUIPULOTU: This isn’t a dead rubber
“We can all see it comes down to small margins. In the last two Tests they’ve had the rub of the green at that; they’ll probably say the same thing about Ellis Park,” he told reporters on Thursday.
“Even though we ended up winning by a big margin [33-16], it really was small margins, so we expect nothing less this weekend.”
The New Zealanders kicked off their tour of the Republic with a five-match unbeaten run that included a clean sweep of the Stormers, Sharks, Bulls and Lions, giving confidence to the new era under Rennie.
“We’d hope to get another one at least over in South Africa, that would have been great,” Lienert-Brown added. “But as a group, we’ve learned a lot.
ALSO: Rennie backs Love despite axing
“We’ve played the best team in the world in their backyard, and a lot of new players have been exposed to that kind of rugby.
“For a team that’s come together with a new coaching staff – I don’t know, we’ve been together for three, four months now – I think we’ve been building nicely.
“But we’ve got to put results on the board. The last two haven’t been what the jersey requires, so this weekend is extremely important to this group.”
The 93-cap Lienert-Brown, who will have played six times and started his fourth match in eight weeks on Saturday, also gave his take on his trip to Mzansi.
TEAM: Codie leads, Richie at 10 for All Blacks
“My experience with South African people and my time in South Africa is that they’re awesome people,” he said. “Even though you want to go out there and beat them, off the field they’re great humans.
“And obviously we spent 19 hours on a plane together, although everyone slept most of the time [laughs].”
Quizzed on whether similar tours should be more prevalent in future, the 31-year-old replied: “It’s not my job to figure out whether it’s feasible or not.
“But I’ve been around for a decade in this team, and it’s certainly one of the coolest things I’ve experienced as an All Black. It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
