Kaizer Chiefs latest: Da Cruz has no intention to drop Petersen
Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz has no intention to drop Brandon Petersen despite his costly goalkeeping errors. djcc.club
Petersen has made three big mistakes so far this season which led to Amakhosi dropping four points and being knockout out of the MTN8.
In the MTN8 against Golden Arrows, Petersen left his first post, and Khulekani Shezi spotted him off the line and fired the ball in.
Petersen then came all the way in an attempt to punch the ball against Mamelodi Sundowns, and he misjudged the flight of the ball and allowed Cassius Mailula to score.
His latest goalkeeping error was against Richards Bay FC last week where he took his eyes off the ball before being pressed by Nqaba Xulu who eventually gave his side the lead.
Now, speaking to the media on Tuesday, Da Cruz said Petersen is not immune to mistakes, saying he is 100 percent behind him.
Da Cruz said while Petersen still made some mistakes last season, he, at the same time, won Chiefs so many points.

“Brandon also made mistakes last season,” said Da Cruz.
“But he also had a very good season last season. He won a lot of points for this team. I trust him at 100%.
“He’s our captain. So, I trust him. I will discuss with him about this weekend but our game model will not change.
“We’ll continue with our normal game,” added Da Cruz.

Mallett: All Blacks are cheating
Nick Mallett says the All Blacks are deliberately collapsing the scrum to negate the Springboks’ advantage up front.
The Boks won the second Test in Cape Town last Saturday to level the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series at 1-1, but their dominant scrum did not get the reward it deserved.
Australian referee Angus Gardner repeatedly failed to penalise the All Blacks for collapsing the scrum, while warning the Boks not to walk around their opponents.
The latter had become a talking point during the week after All Blacks coach Dave Rennie raised his concerns following the first Test at Ellis Park.
Bok coach Rassie Erasmus vehemently rejected that suggestion after the Cape Town Test, while scrum coach Daan Human dismissed it again on Tuesday, insisting the Boks’ objective has always been to scrum straight through their opponents.
DAAN: Boks don’t want to walk around scrum
Speaking on the Talking Boks podcast, Mallett said the difference between the two packs ultimately comes down to the quality of the respective front rows.
“Personnel is vital. It’s the personnel you have.
“If we go in with Malcolm Marx, Ox Nché and Wilco Louw, I don’t really care who they have at hooker or tighthead, they’re in for a really tough afternoon.
“And Wilco – let’s not underestimate how powerful that guy is and how technically correct he is. He’s absolutely dead straight, rather like [Frans] Malherbe.
“Malherbe was better around the field, made more tackles, cleaned more rucks, but Wilco has got the same scrummaging power as he had.
“So when we get Wilco, Ox and Marx in the front row, I challenge any front row in the world to match those guys. They can’t. There’s no one who can match those guys.
“The All Blacks haven’t got the personnel,” the former Bok coach added. “I don’t care what they say. They haven’t got a tighthead, nor have France got a tighthead, nor has England. We dominated them as well.
“We smashed Ireland in the front row. No one accused us of walking around in any of those games. We just got penalty after penalty because those are the laws.
“Let’s hope on Saturday that if we get that same dominance [we get rewarded].”

Mallett claimed the All Blacks’ response when being driven backwards was to take the scrum to ground, making the referee’s decision more difficult.
“What they do now is they don’t want to stay up because if they collapse, they force the referee to make a decision between one or the other side. So you have a 50% chance of getting it right, of actually getting a penalty.
“Whereas the referees should be good enough to see who is actually pancaking, who’s going down.
“So this Saturday, we’re going to come as hard as we can in the scrums and hopefully we’re going to get better reward for our dominance in that area of the game.”

Mallett was particularly critical of the way Gardner handled the scrum in Cape Town.
“If Rassie is correct in saying the first six scrums went down and there was only a penalty in the 35th minute when Marx and Ox came on, then that’s inexcusable.
“You’re not refereeing the laws of rugby correctly and you’re turning it into, basically, a joke because the side that puts the ball in just collapses the scrum.
“How can you go forward if the scrum is lying on the ground? You can’t.
“So, in fact, they are basically cheating to stop themselves giving a penalty away.
“If the ref says play away at No 8, but you’ve put pressure on them, started to get them going back and they fall to the ground, it’s a penalty.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t get that last Saturday.”

Bafana Bafana star striker off to the US on season-long loan deal
Bafana Bafana star striker Lyle Foster is set to leave English side Burnley FC on a loan deal to the United States of America (USA).
According to multiple media reports, Foster is on his way to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Houston Dynamo.
The lanky striker had attracted interest from a number of clubs following Burnley’s relegation from the English Premier League (EPL).
However, a club-to-club agreement has reportedly been reached between Burnley and Houston Dynamo for the Bafana Bafana man to move.

BAFANA BAFANA STRIKER LYLE FOSTER OFF TO THE US
Houston Dynamo will have an option to buy Foster for a whopping R113 million at the end of his loan spell in June 2027.
The 25-year-old frontman will join a growing list of South African players currently playing their trade in the MLS.
As things stand, South Africa has Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Puso Dithejane, Tylon Smith, and Bongokuhle Hlongwane as some of the Bafana Bafana stars in the MLS.
Foster will leave Burnely having featured 99 times for them during his stay. He scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists.

CAN 2027 : Paulo Duarté affiche ses ambitions avant le choc contre l’Afrique du Sud
CONAKRY- À quelques semaines du début des éliminatoires de la CAN 2027, le sélectionneur du Syli National, Paulo Duarte, s’est confié à nos confrères de Guineenews.
Au cours de cet entretien, le technicien portugais a abordé plusieurs sujets importants : la prochaine liste, les binationaux, la double confrontation face à l’Afrique du Sud, la course à la qualification et le retour du Syli au stade du 28 Septembre de Conakry et entre autres…
Cas des binationaux : Duarte voit grand !
Sur la question des binationaux, Paulo Duarte ne cache pas son ambition. Pour lui, la Guinée possède suffisamment de talents pour devenir une grande nation du football africain. « C’est sûr qu’on n’a pas encore obtenu l’accord de tous les binationaux guinéens de qualité qui n’ont pas encore accepté de jouer pour nous. Si tout le monde acceptait, je suis sûr que la Guinée serait une puissance africaine au niveau de la Côte d’Ivoire, du Ghana, du Sénégal ou d’autres équipes, parce qu’on a une énorme qualité. »
Le stade du 28 Septembre, un avantage important !
Après l’homologation provisoire du stade du 28 Septembre par la CAF, la Guinée pourra retrouver son public. Une nouvelle qui réjouit Paulo Duarte.« Le facteur maison, c’est énorme et important. Ça met la pression sur l’adversaire, sur l’arbitre. C’est différent de jouer sur le terrain d’un pays neutre comme le Maroc, où on n’a pas assez de supporters. Jouer avec un stade plein, ce n’est pas la même chose que de jouer avec un stade vide. »
Le sélectionneur invite ainsi les supporters à jouer pleinement leur rôle lors de ces éliminatoires.
La liste du Syli ouverte à tous les joueurs
Concernant la prochaine liste, Paulo Duarte assure que la porte reste ouverte à de nouveaux joueurs. Le sélectionneur veut prendre le temps d’observer les performances et la situation de chacun. « La liste sera publiée huit à dix jours avant. Aujourd’hui, la concurrence est énorme. Ces onze premiers mois m’ont permis d’ouvrir la porte à beaucoup de joueurs de bonne qualité qui jouent dans des clubs moyens, plus jeunes, avec moins de visibilité. »
Le technicien portugais explique également que des joueurs évoluant en Suède, en Suisse, au Danemark ou en Grèce peuvent avoir leur chance, même s’ils évoluent loin des grands championnats européens.
Une qualification qui s’annonce difficile
Paulo Duarte critique par ailleurs le système de qualification de la CAF, qui ne donne pas les mêmes chances à toutes les équipes. « Dans cette qualification de la CAF, il y a neuf équipes qui n’ont pas les mêmes possibilités que les autres de se qualifier. C’était une mauvaise décision de la CAF qui pénalise la Guinée, l’Afrique du Sud, l’Eswatini et toutes les autres équipes de ces groupes. »
Malgré cela, le sélectionneur reste ambitieux. Il sait que l’Afrique du Sud, qui revient d’une Coupe du monde et qui a changé d’entraîneur avec l’arrivée de Pitso Mosimane, sera un adversaire difficile.Le Kenya, pays organisateur de la CAN 2027, sera également un sérieux défi. Mais Duarte prévient : la Guinée aussi sera un adversaire difficile pour ses deux concurrents.
La Guinée est logée dans le groupe D en compagnie de l’Afrique du Sud, le Kenya et l’Érythrée, débutera sa campagne le 26 septembre 2026 contre l’Afrique du Sud, avant de recevoir le Kenya, le 1er octobre, au stade du 28 Septembre de Conakry.

Ultimately, Naidoo and Baaitjies were selected for their exceptional, all-round advocacy of the campaign, their uplifting digital presence, and their selfless support of their fellow finalists during the awards cycle.
The selection of these two ambassadors highlights the power of the platform to unearth new role models. As the gsport selection team noted, Prabashnee Naidoo has undergone a remarkable transformation within the community ecosystem. “Naidoo has gone from virtual unknown on social media last year before the Awards, to one of the most recognisable faces in women’s sport and a gsport Award winner this year.”

Operating from her base in Bloemfontein, Baaitjies has consistently proved that geographic location is no barrier to regional impact. She has used her platform to project her voice nationally, intentionally creating space and broadcast opportunities to celebrate, interview, and uplift other women in sport across the Free State and beyond.
The ambassador program holds a storied place in the platform’s history, evolving alongside South Africa’s sporting landscape. The first ever cohort was introduced in 2012 for the #SPARgsportAwards campaign – including six celebrities who used their voices to drive public support for the awards campaign.
That historic inaugural 2012 lineup tapped into broad cultural communities by featuring influential media and entertainment personalities, including Roxy Burger, Mpho Maboi, Anele Mdoda, Shashi Naidoo, Hulisani Ravele, and Liezel van der Westhuizen.
In 2023, the initiative underwent a strategic shift with the launch of the #gsport18 #PowerOfRecognition Ambassador Program. Rather than relying on outside celebrity voices, gsport began calling back its own former winners and finalists. This structural shift allowed alumni to step into paid influencer roles, host engaging digital discussions on platforms like Instagram Live, and share their firsthand experiences of being recognised on the national stage to encourage the public to discover local heroes.
gsport Founder, Kass Naidoo, noted that the 2026 cohort steps into a unique operational window, tasking the duo with a post-awards mandate to keep momentum alive.
“The role of the two ambassadors this year is slightly different in that the awards are already over,” explained Naidoo. “The challenge now is how to use this solid base to continue growing women’s sport and getting women in sport to believe in themselves.”
