Los Arcos Stadium Left to Rot as Orihuela Council’s Promises Collapse

Orihuela CF supporters have accused Orihuela City Council of abandoning Los Arcos Municipal Stadium after years of delayed improvements, poor maintenance and what they describe as repeated empty promises.

Frente Eskorpión, the club’s official supporters’ group, says the historic stadium is in a “deplorable and precarious” condition. Fans have reported mould, accumulated rubbish, bird droppings, broken seating, cracked walls, damaged flooring and rusting railings.

Plastic sheeting used during work on the pitch has allegedly remained abandoned behind one goal for almost two years. The ageing South Stand is causing particular concern, with supporters warning that its poor condition could eventually create a serious safety problem.

The changing rooms have also reportedly received little attention, despite Orihuela CF returning to training ahead of the new season.

Yet once again, supporters have been offered promises instead of progress.

Sports Councillor Víctor Sigüenza previously said new stands could be installed by summer 2026. That deadline has now passed without the promised work beginning, and the council admits the project may not be completed until early 2027.

The explanation is familiar: administrative delays, staff shortages and other projects taking priority. But after years of complaints, Orihuela’s football supporters are understandably losing patience. A stadium used by a club with more than 2,000 season-ticket holders should not be left waiting indefinitely for basic cleaning, maintenance and safe seating.

Frente Eskorpión has accused the council and municipal sports department of “inaction, mismanagement and disinterest”. It is considering demonstrations outside Orihuela City Hall if there are no visible improvements or firm commitments by September.

Sigüenza has disputed the supporters’ evidence, suggesting that some photographs may be old or even created using artificial intelligence. He maintains that the stadium is generally in excellent condition and says recent cleaning was disrupted because part of the site was used during the Moors and Christians celebrations.

The councillor has now promised another clean-up, repairs to cracks and fresh paint before the season begins. He also pointed to previous improvements to the changing rooms, canteen, press area and lighting.

However, another quick clean and temporary patching operation will not resolve decades of neglect. Los Arcos has suffered structural collapses in the past and has repeatedly received superficial repairs instead of the major renovation it needs.

Orihuela CF’s supporters are no longer asking for announcements. They want safe facilities, proper maintenance and a realistic timetable that the council will actually honour.

“Los Arcos is our home, and we are going to defend it,” the supporters said. After years of excuses, Orihuela City Council must finally decide whether the stadium is a valued public asset—or simply another election promise left to decay.
