Sunrisers Leeds finally registered their first home win of the ongoing Women’s Hundred, defeating London Spirit by five wickets at Headingley.

Chasing 137, the hosts reached the target with two balls to spare, with Annabel Sutherland anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 37 off 21 balls. cricket-ipl.in

Sunrisers had lost both their previous home matches against Southern Brave and Manchester Super Giants. However, this time, despite a mini collapse, they held their nerve to avoid a third successive defeat at Headingley.

Bryony Smith and Phoebe Litchfield gave Sunrisers a flying start with a 57-run opening partnership. However, the hosts then lost three wickets for just two runs, allowing London Spirit to claw their way back into the contest.

Skipper Dani Gibson responded with a valuable 25, adding a crucial 48-run partnership with Sutherland to steady the chase.

Sutherland came into the match on the back of an unbeaten 59 off 30 in the previous game, an effort that ended in a losing cause. This time, she once again stayed till the end, and with Jess Jonassen contributing a quickfire unbeaten 13 off five balls, Sutherland sealed the win in style with a towering six.

Earlier, Sutherland also chipped in with a wicket and was deservedly named Player of the Match.

The unbeaten knock lifted Sutherland to third on the run-scorers’ list this season with 183 runs in five innings at an average of 91.50 and a strike rate of 156.41.

Speaking after the win, a relieved Sutherland said: “We just haven’t quite got over the line in the last few but we felt like we’ve been there and thereabouts. So, it’s nice to get the win.”

The victory lifted Sunrisers Leeds to fourth in the standings. They will next face Birmingham Phoenix in Birmingham on August 7.

Former Pakistan Test opener Sadiq Mohammad has criticised Pakistan's batting approach in the second Test against West Indies in Port of Spain, saying the tourists' batsmen failed to apply basic techniques against the moving ball and lacked the intent to put the bowlers under pressure.

In a series of messages shared with this correspondent, the 81-year-old, who represented Pakistan in 41 Tests between 1969 and 1981, suggested that Pakistan's batsmen should stand approximately two feet outside their crease to negate seam movement and disrupt the West Indies bowlers' rhythm.

"Asad Shafiq, kindly send message to Babar Azam and other batsmen to stand two foot out of their crease," Sadiq wrote.

Asad is the batting coach of Pakistan on their ongoing West Indies tour.

"This will stop ball movement and good length ball will become full length ball to drive it. This will also disturb their bowling line and length," Sadiq said.

Sadiq argued that advancing outside the crease would force the bowlers to alter their lengths while allowing batsmen to meet the ball before it had time to move significantly off the pitch.

The former opener was equally critical of the batsmen's technique, saying they repeatedly allowed the ball to come too deep before playing their shots.

"All batsmen played with bat behind their both leg and that's why most of the ball went behind square," he wrote.

"It means you letting the ball hit bat, batsman must play backfoot or forward with bat beside their front foot, not behind or beside their back foot."

According to Sadiq, Pakistan's top-order lacked positive intent and failed to seize scoring opportunities against the seamers.

"All batsmans were afraid of driving or hitting the ball," he said.

"Top five batsmen must take risk to hit the ball rather then blocking, apply all your basic in playing forcefull or defensive stroke."

Sadiq also urged the coaching staff to communicate technical advice directly to the batsmen while they were at the crease.

"This is your job to teach them and send messages to onfield batsmen by taking bat or gloves," he wrote.

Sadiq, regarded as one of Pakistan's most technically accomplished opening batsman of his era, has been technically too smart to analyse the things.

Latter Sadiq also told this correspondent that Asad Shafique like batsmen should be carried with the team, adding he has sone his job and played an exceptional knock to strengthen Pakistan position in the second Test.

After securing 43 runs lead in the first innings thanks to Abdullah Shafique's spectacular 160 and an 88 from Babar Azam the tourists have reduced the hosts to 103-6.

West Indies now lead by 60 runs with four wickets in hand.

Off-spinner Sajid Khan picked 4-32.

New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has entered franchise ownership in Sri Lankan cricket after Stockholm-based sports ownership group Anchor Sports AB, which he co-owns with businessman Nagendra Siddoutam, acquired Lanka Premier League (LPL) franchise Jaffna Kings.

Following the acquisition, the franchise will be rebranded as Anchor Jaffna Kings, marking a new chapter for the most successful team in LPL history after its previous ownership was terminated last month, as per Cricinfo.

The takeover comes just weeks after the franchise was placed under the emergency regulatory control of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and LPL rights holders Innovation Production Group (IPG) following the termination of the previous ownership on July 23.

The acquisition also brings Jaffna Kings into Anchor Sports AB’s expanding global multi-club network.

According to an IPG media release, Anchor Sports AB’s international portfolio already includes the Antwerp Anchors in the European T20 Premier League in Belgium and the Vancouver Anchors men’s and women’s teams competing in Canada’s Super60 league.

Expressing his excitement over the acquisition, Zaheer said he was looking forward to becoming part of Sri Lankan cricket in a new role.

“I’ve always admired the calibre, innovation and variety of bowling talent that comes out of Sri Lanka – it’s a country I’ve visited, competed in, and hold very fond memories of. To now be part of Sri Lankan cricket as an owner is something I’m genuinely thrilled about, and I can’t wait to get started with the Anchor Jaffna Kings," Zaheer said.

Anchor Sports AB co-founder Nagendra Siddoutam said the franchise aligns with the group’s long-term vision of building a connected global sporting network while retaining strong local identities.

“This is a significant step for us. Sri Lanka has a rich cricketing heritage, and the LPL has established itself as a well-run, highly competitive league in a short span of time. The Anchor Jaffna Kings will be a natural extension of what we’re building globally – franchises that are rooted in their local communities while being part of a connected, international Anchor network. We’re looking forward to investing in the Anchor Jaffna Kings and contributing to the league’s continued growth," he said.

The franchise has undergone multiple ownership changes since the inception of the LPL. Most recently, it was owned by Sports Commune, co-owned by former India Under-19 cricketer Manjot Kalra and entrepreneur Mayank Goel. That ownership ended after Kalra was arrested on alleged match-fixing charges in July, while Goel’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Before Sports Commune, the franchise was owned by the Lyca Group from 2021 to 2025, while a consortium led by Arnold Anandan and Rahul Sood controlled the team during the inaugural LPL season. Each ownership tenure ended due to financial issues, prompting SLC and IPG to step in and manage the franchise during the ongoing season.

Despite the off-field uncertainty, Jaffna Kings have remained the benchmark of success in the Lanka Premier League, winning four of the five completed editions and once again topping the league standings this season to qualify for the playoffs.

LPL Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela welcomed the new ownership, saying Zaheer’s involvement would be a major positive for Sri Lankan cricket.

“Having an owner of Zaheer Khan’s calibre involved with the Anchor Jaffna Kings is a real boost for the league. The mentorship and direction he can offer our young Sri Lankan players will be enormous, and we’re excited to see that experience passed on both on and off the field," Dodanwela said.

New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): West Delhi Lions registered a convincing five-wicket victory over South Delhi Superstarz in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Tuesday night.

The Lions produced an excellent all-round performance, first bowling South Delhi Superstarz out for 160 in 19.5 overs before comfortably chasing down the target, according to a press release from DPL.

South Delhi Superstarz never managed to build any significant partnerships as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The batting line-up struggled to find momentum, with the Lions’ bowlers maintaining tight lines throughout the innings.

A late counterattack from Vision Panchal gave the Superstarz something to fight for. He played a quick cameo of 24 off just 12 balls, helping his side reach the 160-run mark.

Mayank Gusain was the standout performer with the ball, producing a sensational spell of 3/13 in his four overs. Nitish Rana also made an impact with figures of 1/30, while experienced pacer Kulwant Khejroliya chipped in with two wickets for 31 runs in his four-over spell.

Chasing 161, West Delhi Lions also had a shaky start, slipping to 26/2 inside the powerplay. However, Nitish Rana and Krish Yadav steadied the innings with a valuable 58-run partnership for the third wicket.

Rana led from the front with a composed 32 off 25 balls before being dismissed. Although the Lions lost a few more wickets in the middle overs, they remained in control of the chase.

Ayush Doseja then played a crucial innings under pressure, scoring a well-made 44 off 27 deliveries to keep the scoreboard moving. He received good support from Mayank Gusain, who capped off a memorable all-round performance by remaining unbeaten on 19 off just 10 balls.
